Discover Barbados Culture & Heritage Art

With the recent emergence of the Caribbean art scene on the international stage, Barbados has garnered tremendous attention and acclaim for its many talented artists.

Much of the beautiful craftwork found in Barbados is created from the island’s most plentiful and available natural resources, such as clay, wood, palm leaves, bamboo, leather and shells. With these basic elements, local artisans are able to fashion incredible works of pottery, batik, jewellery, baskets and woodcarvings.

But perhaps the biggest testament to the growth of Barbadian artistry is in the number of art galleries found on the island as well as the numerous craft fairs and festivals, most notably: The Holetown Festival Street Market in February; the Oistins Fish Festival Street Market at Easter; the Crop Over Festival's Bridgetown Market in August; and the Barbados Museum Annual Craft Fair in December.
