the sweetest summer festival

Only the island that has perfected the fine art of living can throw a party like this! Four spectacular sun-drenched weeks filled with dancing, live music, cultural events, and of course, legendary Barbadian rum! For the people of Barbados, it’s a cultural celebration that has hallmarked the end of the sugar cane growing season for over 300 years. For visitors, it’s a unique opportunity to become truly immersed in the dynamic culture of the island nation.

Highlights of this gigantic party include the Cohobblopot – the island’s largest festival show, and dozens of local Kadooments – the brightly colored parades guaranteed to get you into the festival spirit. After all, who can resist joining in with hundreds of costumed locals swirl as they sway to the irresistible Calypso rhythms provided by world-class musicians?

Also not to be missed are the numerous after-work limes. “Liming’” is the Barbadian art of having a good time, and these informal, laid-back parties can stretch into the wee morning hours, as revelers mix, meet, and enjoy one another’s company. All fueled by generous helpings of Barbados’ famed Rum Punch. Heritage fairs, fireworks displays, dances and the fantastic Pic-O-De-Crop calypso music competition will also keep you celebrating and dancing your entire visit long.

It’s part month-long street dance, heritage fair, arts and crafts show, Calypso concert, Soka dance party, parade, cocktail party, and fireworks display. It’s Crop Over in Barbados. And it’s the sweetest summer festival!

Long live Barbados. Long live Crop Over. Long live life!
