Attractions Rum Rum Distilleries

Since the early 17th century, rum has been a staple of Barbadian history, culture and its economy. Though the production of “liquid gold” in Barbados dates back to the early 1640s, it wasn’t until 1703 when Mount Gay established the “oldest rum brand in the world” that Barbados began to earn the distinction as the birthplace of rum.

Today, visitors to the island have the chance to enjoy the full flavor of Barbados rum and its distilling process, with daily tours available at both the Mount Gay Rum and Malibu Rum visitor centres located in St. Michael's parish. Likewise, St. Nicholas Abbey in St. Peter parish offers guests a more intimate look into the creation of small batch craft rum.
