Combat games such as Karate, Taekwondo and boxing are the most popular martial arts in Barbados with a number of small but avid clubs training fighters of all ages. Karate has the longest history on the island, but Taekwondo is quickly catching up with well-organized adult clubs and a series of local and international competitions.

Another popular sport is boxing which has developed to the professional level and is practiced by both men and women on the island. Junior Geenidge is the most famous Bajan amateur in the light bantamweight realm. In the professional ranks, Christopher ‘Shaka’ Henry is the local personality and has been nicknamed ‘the man of steel’ due to his sponsorship from the Barbados Rally Club.

Kickboxing, judo and fencing are also practiced by small but energetic fans of the sports. The Fencing Club hires out equipment to visiting fencers if required.
