Bajans love strategic board games like dominoes, draughts, chess and warri. Visitors will find groups of men clustered around tables beneath the coconut trees deeply absorbed by a game. Dominoes is perhaps the most commonly played game and has been integrated into the daily life of the islanders, with chess, draughts and warri close behind in popularity. Ronald ‘Suki’ King was raised on the island and has become a world draughts (checkers) champion, holding both the World 3-Move and Go-As-You-Please Titles.

Warri (also known as the Game of Houses,) is the oldest game of the island, dating back several thousand years and originating in Africa. It is believed that warri was brought to the island by slaves two hundred years ago. There are two types of warri: Round-and-Round warri and Oware, or Barbados warri. Since the game is a highly technical one (played on a board also used to make mathematical calculations,) and passed down through oral tradition, it has been used to chart Barbados anthropological history.
