Run Barbados described as “the road runner’s best kept secret” attracts visitors from the U.K., North America, Africa and the Caribbean, and has become an anticipated event on the global marathon calendar. Ever since the festival started in 1983, many of the world’s top runners have, participated in this event.

Catherine Ndereba, Hugh Jones, Eddy Hellebuyck, Bruce Tulloh, the Kimutai and Kipkoskei families and several other national champions from around the world have discovered the secret and done the “Run”. Others like Kim Goff of New Hampshire have made it their annual pilgrimage.

Now, world great Bill Rodgers is part of the planning of what surely must be one of the world’s most beautiful and scenic courses.

Set almost entirely at sea level, the three major races – the 10K, half and full marathons – begin and end at the Bridgetown esplanade, right in front of the office of the Prime Minister and also one of Barbados’ most beautiful beaches.

The 10K runs around and through the capital, Bridgetown. This event is held on the bustling Saturday afternoon and generally attracts the biggest field of the Festival.

The Half marathon hugs the west coast line and turns around at Holetown, the island’s oldest English Settlement town while the full marathon goes the length of the coastline and turns around at Speightstown, the old sugar entrepot which traded directly with Bristol, Liverpool and Boston in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The RunBarbados events have also been certified by the Association for International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS).

There is plenty to do on the island in the week leading up to the event while the runners make their final preparations on the roads at all times of the day and night.

Above all the sheer beauty of the sunswept and trade-wind cooled Barbados, is what draws many of our visitors to the island.

We wait to welcome you too.
