Vivacious entertainment is provided year round in the form of traditional festivals. Vividly hued costumes and energetic Caribbean rhythms are accompanied by swaying hips and stomping feet. Comprised of many different African, British, American and Amerindian elements, the festivals of Barbados are an exciting display of the living culture of the Bajan people.

May 02–August 03, 2009 Crop Over Festival
“More than a carnival; Sweet fuh days!” The highlight of the annual cultural calendar is the Crop Over Festival, celebrating the end of the sugar harvest. The Festival originated on the sugar plantations centuries ago and was revived in 1974. It involves community participation in concerts, fairs, cart parades and other cultural activities, with a Calypso Monarch competition and street carnival being integral components. The Festival culminates in Grand Kadooment Day.
