Art, antiques and history—this venue has it all. Welches is the home of three generations of Walkers, including artist Jill Walker and her late husband Jimmy Walker, who founded the Best of Barbados Gift Shops and Walkers’ World. The fine 1830s plantation house is filled with decades of her paintings. The elder Walkers bought Welches in 1966 and restored it to how it might have looked originally, while renovating the old Sugar Boiling House and Stanchion House. Along with the millwall, chattel house, two delightful cottages, the screen printing workshop and plantation buildings are all open today.

Welches is located opposite Automotive Art on Highway 2A about a mile north of the Warrens roundabout. Please park as directed, just outside the gates.
The Barbados National Trust Open House Season, which has been a 'must do' on Barbados' events calendar since the 1960s, continues in 2019 with a showcase of some of Barbados' most historically interesting and architecturally magnificent private homes. In addition to 'lively talks', narrated by some of Barbados’ most well-known historians and architectural aficionados, the Open House Season 2019 will also feature live music, cultural performances by local schools, beautiful handmade Barbadian craft sold by artisans and many more enjoyable surprises!
