The Brighton Farmers Market is located on the expansive grounds of the Brighton Plantation in St George. The plantation was established sometime in the 1600s and continues to grow and sell produce. The Pile family are the original owners, who to this day still own and operate the plantation, an inheritance passed down for several generations.

The farmers market is open for four hours every Saturday from 6 am to 10 am, this means that getting the best pick requires an early arrival, especially considering the very affordable prices. In addition to the wide variety of excellent products that are produced locally, the market has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The plantation grounds serve as a gathering place that brings people from all walks of life together. The pleasant feeling that comes with the lively and friendly people traversing the market, enjoying the fresh air and companionship is one of its many charms.

Everything you could think of is provided by the many vendors and artists with their diverse talents. Featured vendors include Cliff Bakery who offer a lovely selection of artisanal bread, traditional pastries and patties; the refreshing, organic and locally made Noble Ice Creams; Nature’s Oils homemade Bajan seasoning; Handmade by Kae natural soaps and Cottage Meats’ legendary Sausage cutters. Craft items such as handmade copper necklaces, earrings and bracelets, uniquely designed wall clocks, wooden toys, Barbadian themed paintings and original print pillows are also on display.

Delectable delicacies are served for breakfast; quiches, croissants, fish cutters and an assortment of delicious cakes. Other treats that are popular among kids and adults too are the fluffy whipped cream covered waffles or colourful smoothie bowls and the homebrew Pile Bucks coffee.  After grabbing your eats, there is ample seating provided by a multitude of comfortably shaded picnic tables; and the icing on top of the “Brighton Farmers Market '' cake is the play area set up to entertain busy little youngsters, allowing parents to get their shopping completed. Seasonal gifts and food items are also available around Christmas time, helping you to embrace the season and make it especially enjoyable. The market is easily accessible by wheelchair and plenty of parking is available.

On Saturday’s large crowds of people are usually gathered at Brighton Plantation, this social gathering for many is a family tradition. Generation gaps are evident but they all enjoy the farmers market equally and most times for the same reasons. Brighton Farmers Market is a social event that includes shopping, food, fun and relaxation. There is plenty to see and do, space for the kids to run around freely while allowing the adults to maximize their shopping and socializing time.
