The island continues to attract large numbers of recreational and professional sailors.
With excellent facilities at locations like the Barbados Yacht Club, and prevailing conditions that have been labelled ‘champagne sailing’ by competitors in the several World Sailing Championships held in Barbados in recent years, the island continues to attract large numbers of recreational and professional sailors. The highlight of the year is the historic Mount Gay Regatta, to be held from January 16 to 24, 2017, which involves 3 days of Coastal Racing, the 81st Anniversary Mount Gay Round Barbados Race and the Ocean Passage Race to Antigua. In 2017 Barbados is also hosting the OK Dinghy World Championships, May 24-31, and the Finn Masters World Championships, June 02-09.
