Marathon Weekend!

Run Barbados is the largest marathon in the Caribbean. The prestigious Run Barbados Marathon has evolved into one of Barbados’ premier sporting activities on the island known for its festive atmosphere and spirit of camaraderie. The Run Barbados unique route takes participants on a scenic journey through some of Barbados’ most historical landmarks. The choice of races around the world is endless but the Run Barbados Marathon Weekend has distinguishing characteristics that can provide the experience of a lifetime. The friendly local culture, the sheer beauty of the island and the marathon’s course that is both scenic and historic. 2023 will mark 40 years of the Run Barbados Marathon and this year the event will be held from December 8th-10th.

A UNIQUE 3-DAY EXPERIENCE

The festivities kick off with  The Garrison Savannah Fun Mile on Dec. 8th, with entertainment starting at 6 PM and the Fun Mile at 8PM. The race will start and finish at the historic Garrison Savannah. 

On December 9th,  the fun begins at 3:30 PM on the scenic East Coast at Barclays Park.

The races for the day are the Sleeping Giant 5k Race and the Sand Dunes 10k Race. 

The marathon weekend ends on Sunday, Dec 10th with the Farley Hill Half and Full marathon commencing at 5:30 AM. Then the Joe’s River coastal walk will follow and start at 7 AM.

All participants will receive a Run Barbados branded T-shirt.

 Participants in each race will receive a uniquely designed Finisher medal

Friday Dec. 8th at the Garrison Savannah – Fun Mile
Entertainment from 6pm, with Food and Drinks on sale
Fun Mile Race at 8pm
Prizes for Top 3 Males & Females Runners in Juniors (16 and under) and Open.  
Right behind the competitive runners we will also have a Fun Race for Costume Runners, 
groups, and individuals out to enjoy the festivities. 
Prize giving, and entertainment will continue after the Fun Mile race.

Saturday Dec. 9th at Barclays Park, St. Andrew

On Saturday afternoon the fun begins at 2pm from Barclays Park on the
East Coast.

Entertainment from 2pm with Food & Drinks on sale

3.30pm – Warm up session with popular fitness instructor.

4.10pm – 10K Run starts

The 10K is one of the oldest races in the Caribbean.

Established in 1983, it’s a race you don't want to miss!


4.15pm – 5K Run starts
The 5K race is our most popular event. Runners of all ages can enjoy the challenge of the 5K Race. See more details on this challenge on the Runners Details page.


4.30pm – 5K winners to finish line

4.40pm – 10K winners to finish line


Presentation of prizes and awards for the 5K and 10K races will take place at a

designated time, when results become available. This will not necessarily occur when

all the runners have finished.

Both the 5K and 10K races follow a scenic course along the East Coast.

There will be entertainment on the course, lots of support, water stations and aid

stations.

All finishers in the 5K & 10K Races will receive a commemorative medal.


Entertainment & After Party: There will be music and entertainment at the Start / Finish line at Barclays Park from 2PM and will continue through the 5K and 10K events. Food and drinks will also available.

Runners, their family, friends, supporters and all the public are encouraged to join us

in Barclays Park, St. Andrew to enjoy the festivities.

Sunday Dec. 10th at Barclays Park, St. Andrew

4.45am – Music starts and runners arrive at Barclays Park

5.30am – the Half Marathon and Marathon starts

Runners will start & finish in front of Barclays Park, St. Andrew.

Marathon runners will complete TWO laps of the Half-Marathon course. 

Refreshment stations and toilets will be on the route, as well as Entertainment.

7am – The Joe’s River 5K Walk is an easy way to join in on the action with friends and

family. The walk’s route takes participants from Barclays Park along the beautiful

East coast road, through the trail which includes the spectacular Joes River Bridge,

near Round House Hotel in Bathsheba, St. Joseph and back.

Presentation of prizes and awards for the Half Marathon and Marathon races will take place at a designated time which may be before the conclusion of the races.

All finishers will receive a Commemorative medal.

Challenge medals will also be awarded.


The weekend course routes are all on the spectacular East Coast of Barbados.
Fluid stations and toilets along the route as well as Caribbean music!

Run Barbados Marathon Weekend was all about having fun in a safe environment. Congratulations to all who took part, we hope you enjoyed the experience and look forward to welcoming you back in 2023!

All entries on or before September 30th must be done via this website. From October 1st, the designated box offices will be open for registration. From October 1st - Dec. 8th participants can either enter via the website or at a designated box office to be announced. On December 9th all new registrations will be done at the Race Kit Collection centre only.

RunBarbados Fans


Every year the event also welcomes recreational runners from across the globe. Many of these runners have returned multiple times and made firm friendships with Barbadians and other foreign runners holidaying in Barbados. The wheelchair competitors are a welcomed and familiar sight on the race weekend as are the families that come out to participate in the 5K walk.

Four decades have passed since the prestigious Run Barbados series was conceptualized, by locals: Sir Austin Sealy and Carl Bayley. This exciting event has evolved into one of the premier sporting attractions on the island with a festive atmosphere and a spirit of camaraderie that epitomizes the theme: “Come for the Run, Stay for the Fun!”
