Rugby
From the early 1900’s, the game of rugby has been a staple of Barbadian sporting pursuits. First played by British soldiers and their families when stationed on the island, the sport has continued to grow in popularity in large part to the efforts of the Barbados Rugby Football Union that was established in 1964.
Today, the Union consists of four senior clubs, the Emperors RFC, Renegades RFC, Scorpions RFC and Trident RFC, who participate in interclub games at the Garrison Savannah. Additionally, a Women’s, Veteran’s and Youth squads round out the BRFU and compete in the Caribbean Championships each year.
