Fishing
More than just a recreational pursuit, fishing is a way of life for many Barbadians. Arise in the early morning light and you’ll see the boats on the horizon in pursuit of their catch of the day. If you’re up to try your hand landing a barracuda, kingfish or perhaps a marlin, many charter companies are available for hire, with most including drinks, all tackle and bait.
Furthermore, the Barbados Game Fishing Association hosts an annual competition that attracts anglers from across Europe, U.K., Canada, plus North and South America.
life lessons: flying fish
The official national fish of the country, the flying fish can be found just about anywhere in Barbados - on coins, as statues and most abundantly on plates and served up with cou cou. The flying fish earns its name because of the unusually large pectoral fins that enable the fish to glide through the air above the water's surface at distances of up to 400 m (1,300 ft.)
